Trichy: A tragic incident occurred in Trichy where a 17-year-old boy and his father were booked after the minor rammed his two-wheeler into an elderly man, causing the latter's death. The victim, identified as S Arumugam, 64, a resident of Anna Nagar in Lalgudi, was crossing the road near the Anna Nagar bus stop on the Lalgudi–Sengaraiyur Road around 2 pm on May 9 when the accident took place.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the minor, hailing from a village near Lalgudi, was riding a bike in a rash and negligent manner. He lost control and hit Arumugam, who sustained severe head injuries. The elderly man was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Legal Action Taken
The victim's daughter, Meena, 18, filed a complaint against the minor and his father. A case was registered on Sunday under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The juvenile is currently undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital in Trichy. Arumugam's body was handed over to his family members after a postmortem examination.
This incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving, especially by minors, and the legal consequences that follow. The case is under investigation.
