A violent road rage incident involving a known criminal has shaken Trichy city, leading to police action and a hospital admission. The altercation, which resulted in an assault on a mini-truck driver, unfolded near the busy Head Post Office (HPO) signal on Tuesday night.
Altercation Over Wrong-Way Riding Escalates
The trouble began around 8 PM when Syed Bilal, a 48-year-old resident of Subramaniapuram, had parked his mini-truck on Melapudur Main Road. Bilal, who was transporting biscuit loads from Gandhi Market, had stopped to have tea. At this moment, two youths on a motorcycle, riding in the wrong direction, nearly collided with his stationary vehicle.
An argument broke out after Bilal questioned the duo about their dangerous riding. The situation quickly spiraled out of control. One of the accused, identified as 24-year-old Mathew Metha, is a documented history-sheeter. Metha reportedly called his friends to the spot for reinforcement.
Violent Assault and Damage to Vehicle
Upon the arrival of Metha's associates, the group turned violent. They not only physically assaulted Syed Bilal but also vandalized his vehicle. The assailants damaged the windshield of the mini-truck during the attack. Bilal sustained cut injuries on his hands in the melee.
Fearing for his safety, the injured driver managed to flee from the scene. The gang, having carried out the assault, also dispersed from the location near the HPO signal.
Police Action and Investigation Underway
Syed Bilal subsequently approached the Palakkarai police, who have registered a formal case based on his complaint. The police ensured that Bilal received immediate medical attention and admitted him to the Government Medical College and Hospital (MGMGH) for treatment of his injuries.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that an active investigation is in progress to apprehend all individuals involved in this road rage attack in Trichy. The police are utilizing available evidence and leads to track down Mathew Metha and his three accomplices.
