Truck Cabin Flips Forward, Crashes into Car and Electric Post in Idukki
A serious road accident occurred on Monday evening near Memala on the hill highway in Idukki district, when a truck's cabin suddenly flipped forward while the vehicle was in motion. The incident took place at approximately 5:15 PM, resulting in the truck crashing into a car and a roadside electric post.
Details of the Accident
The truck was traveling from Elappara towards Kuttikkanam when its cabin unexpectedly flipped forward. This caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The truck then collided with a car coming from the opposite direction, which belonged to Peermade panchayat member Anoop Chelakkal. After hitting the car, the truck continued its trajectory and knocked down a nearby electric post before finally coming to a halt.
Injuries and Rescue Efforts
The truck driver and his helper were both grievously injured in the accident. They have been identified as Satheesh, 44, and Satheesh Kumar, 49, both natives of Bonami. Immediately after the crash, the helper jumped out of the vehicle but sustained injuries from the fall. The driver was trapped inside the overturned cabin.
Local residents and police personnel worked together to rescue the driver from the vehicle. Both injured individuals were initially taken to Peermade Taluk Hospital for emergency treatment. Due to the seriousness of their injuries, they were later shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kottayam for specialized medical care.
Preliminary Investigation Findings
Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest that the accident occurred because the truck cabin was not properly locked. As the vehicle was moving, the lock reportedly came loose, which caused the cabin to flip forward abruptly. This mechanical failure led to the driver losing control and the subsequent collisions.
The incident highlights concerns about vehicle maintenance and safety protocols on hill highways. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if any additional factors contributed to this tragic accident.
