Truck Fire Halts Traffic on Borio-Teenpahad Road in Dumka for Hours
Traffic on the crucial Borio–Teenpahad Main Road in Sahibganj district was severely disrupted for nearly two hours on Sunday morning following a dramatic truck fire incident near Dumaria village. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Borio police station, leaving numerous vehicles stranded on both sides of the road as emergency responders worked to manage the situation.
Rapid Escalation of the Fire Incident
The truck, which was fully loaded with stone chips and en route to Borio, suddenly caught fire in its cabin area near Dumaria village. According to police reports, the driver and his helper managed to escape unharmed by quickly jumping out of the vehicle as the flames erupted. Eyewitnesses described how the fire spread with alarming speed, completely engulfing the heavy vehicle within just a few minutes.
Local residents immediately rushed to the scene upon noticing the blaze and made valiant attempts to douse the fire using whatever means available. Simultaneously, the Borio police were alerted and promptly notified the fire brigade to dispatch emergency tenders to the location.
Complete Destruction and Investigation Findings
By the time the fire tenders arrived at the remote spot, the truck had already been reduced to a charred skeleton of ashes. The firefighters worked efficiently to bring the remaining flames under control and prevent any further spread. Prabhashankar Dubey, assistant sub-inspector of the Town police station, provided preliminary insights into the probable cause of the incident.
"Prima facie, the fire appears to have been due to a short circuit in the vehicle's wiring system," Dubey stated, indicating that an electrical fault likely triggered the catastrophic blaze. The investigation remains ongoing to confirm the exact technical failure that led to this dangerous situation on a major transportation artery.
Impact on Regional Transportation
The Borio–Teenpahad Main Road serves as a vital connectivity route in the Sahibganj district, and the two-hour blockade caused significant inconvenience to commuters and commercial vehicles alike. The stranded traffic created a backlog that took considerable time to clear even after the fire was extinguished, highlighting the vulnerability of key infrastructure to such unexpected incidents.
This incident underscores the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and electrical system checks, particularly for heavy transport vehicles carrying combustible materials. Authorities have reminded truck operators and drivers to ensure proper safety protocols are followed to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
