Two arrested for damaging CCTV at Tamil camp in Madurai

Madurai city police have arrested two individuals from the Sri Lankan Tamil rehabilitation camp at Anaiyur for allegedly damaging CCTV cameras and focus lights installed for security surveillance. The incident occurred on the night of May 26 under the Koodal Pudur police station limits, according to officials.

Incident Details

The accused, identified as Chandru (28), son of Deivendran, and Sudhan alias Ajay (26), son of Suresh, were reportedly under the influence of alcohol when they created a disturbance and damaged the surveillance equipment inside the camp. Both are residents of the same rehabilitation camp.

Police Investigation

Following a complaint lodged by camp authorities, Koodal Pudur police registered a case and initiated an investigation. The duo was promptly apprehended and produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody. They were subsequently lodged at Puzhal prison in Chennai.

Authorities have not disclosed the estimated cost of the damaged equipment but emphasized that such acts of vandalism will be dealt with strictly. The rehabilitation camp houses Sri Lankan Tamil refugees, and security measures have been heightened to prevent similar incidents in the future.
