Gurgaon Police Arrest Two in Connection with Firing on Constable
Days after a constable was wounded in a gunfire incident outside a house in Sector 45, Gurgaon police on Saturday arrested two alleged shooters from Punjab. The accused have been identified as Gursher Singh alias Shera (23) and Jaspal alias Babbal (28), both residents of Tarn Taran in Punjab. They were apprehended during a joint operation by crime branch teams from sectors 40, 39 and 17 police stations.
Details of the Attack
The incident occurred on May 2 when the two men opened fire outside the house of Saurabh Yadav, former event manager of singer Rahul Yadav alias Fazilpuria. The attack took place in village Kanhai, where Saurabh resides. Constable Kulbir, who was on security duty outside the house, sustained bullet-graze injuries to his hand and leg. He was later treated at a hospital and discharged.
According to police, the accused were in contact with foreign-based gangsters Deepak Nandal and Satta Naushera, who allegedly promised them money to carry out the killing. The shooters had used pistols, and the source of the weapons will be investigated during their four-day police remand.
Investigation and Arrests
Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan stated, “During interrogation, Shera and Babbal admitted they had come to kill Saurabh and had opened fire at police personnel. They were shown Saurabh’s house by other accused already arrested in the case, who also arranged vehicles, weapons and logistical support for the attack.”
Earlier, police had arrested four others in connection with the case: Ashok alias Pahalwan (35) from Rohtak, Sumit (33) from Sonipat, Manoj Kabar (36) from Rohtak, and Vicky (36) from Sonipat. Ashok, Sumit and Manoj were held on May 4, and Vicky on May 5. They are accused of conducting a recce, arranging motorcycles and weapons, and staying near the spot to help execute the plan.
Background of the Dispute
The probe revealed that Saurabh and fugitive gangster Deepak Nandal were old acquaintances and had a monetary dispute. Nandal had allegedly threatened Saurabh earlier and demanded money from him. Nandal and Naushera later claimed responsibility for the attack on social media, though police said those posts are yet to be verified. Officers are also checking whether the arrested men had links to wider arms networks allegedly run from abroad.
Criminal Records
Police records show that Shera has cases of attempt to murder and under the Arms Act in Punjab, while Babbal faces cases of assault, criminal intimidation, and two under the NDPS Act.
