Trichy: Two men were arrested on Saturday for allegedly robbing members of the public at knifepoint in separate incidents near Chathiram Bus Stand and Ponmalaipatti in Trichy.
The accused were identified as A Yogeswaran, 19, of Chinthamani, and M Sathyaraj, 42, of Kalkondarkottai.
Police said Yogeswaran allegedly robbed an electrician, H Ramkumar, 32, of Manachanallur, near Chathiram Bus Stand around 6 am. As Ramkumar emerged from a public toilet, the accused confronted him and demanded money. When he resisted, Yogeswaran allegedly assaulted him, threatened him with a knife and robbed him of ₹3,000 before fleeing.
In the second incident, Sathyaraj allegedly robbed A Irudhayaraj, 39, a Tasmac employee from Khajapettai Main Road, near Ponmalaipatti around 10 am. Police said the accused intercepted Irudhayaraj while he was returning home, threatened him with a knife and robbed him of ₹500.
Following complaints lodged at the Fort and Golden Rock police stations, officers launched a search operation and arrested the two accused.
Cases have been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is under way.
