Police in Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli district have made significant progress in a shocking case of murder, arresting two individuals accused of brutally killing a 45-year-old madrassa teacher last month. The incident, which occurred on December 12, sent shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Fatal Attack
According to the police, the victim, identified as Murtaza, was returning home on a motorcycle with his daughter, Ishrat Jahan. The assailants, allegedly his rivals, tracked his movement and intercepted him near a canal embankment in the Dih police station area. The attackers first opened fire, but the bullet missed its target.
This caused Murtaza's motorcycle to fall. In a desperate attempt to save himself and his daughter, he tried to flee on foot. However, the accused chased him down. Police stated that the group then assaulted him repeatedly with a hammer and bricks, killing him on the spot. His daughter witnessed the horrific attack.
Police Investigation and Arrests
The case was initiated based on a written complaint filed by the deceased's cousin, Abdul Hafeez. An FIR was registered at the Dih police station under Section 103(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The postmortem report confirmed that injuries from hard and blunt objects led to Murtaza's death.
Acting on the directions of Superintendent of Police Dr. Yashveer Singh, and under the supervision of ASP Sanjeev Kumar Sinha and Circle Officer Yadavendra Bahadur, a police team from Dih station swung into action. On Monday, they arrested two of the named accused: Abdul Jabbar and Rafiq Ahmed. The other accused, Mohammad Ayyub, Mohammad Murtaza, Mohammad Naim, and Mohammad Zuber alias Babbu, remain at large. All the accused are residents of Uttari Pathakpur village in Rae Bareli.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Probe
Both arrested individuals were produced before a court and have been sent to judicial custody. The police investigation is ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the crime. The swift arrests have been noted as a key step in delivering justice for the slain teacher and his family.
This violent crime highlights ongoing concerns about law and order in the region. The use of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in registering the case is also a notable legal aspect. Authorities continue to pursue all leads to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.
