Odisha Police Crack 2019 IRC Village Robbery Case with Two Arrests
In a significant breakthrough, the Nayapalli police in Bhubaneswar have arrested two individuals in connection with a robbery that occurred in November 2019. The arrests were made on Saturday, following a detailed investigation into the incident that took place at a residence in N-5, IRC Village.
Details of the 2019 Robbery Incident
According to official police reports, the crime unfolded on November 17, 2019, when two unidentified men forcibly entered the home of complainant Rabindra Nath Mishra. The intrusion occurred around 2:00 PM, and the assailants reportedly assaulted Mishra with a sharp object during the confrontation.
The robbers made off with valuable items including approximately 90 grams of gold ornaments, Rs 2,000 in cash, and a mobile phone. The case had remained under active investigation since the incident was first reported.
Police Investigation Leads to Arrests
Police officials revealed that their investigation gained momentum when they apprehended 43-year-old Debendra Choudhary, also known as Lipu, based on specific intelligence inputs. During interrogation, Choudhary reportedly confessed to his involvement in the robbery and provided crucial information about his accomplices.
Choudhary's confession implicated 56-year-old Sanjaya Kumar Hati, whom he identified as the person who hired him for the crime and showed him the complainant's residence beforehand. Choudhary further disclosed that he had recruited two additional individuals—Santosh Mallik from Pattamundai and Deepak Sutar from Fatepur—to assist in executing the robbery.
Recovery of Stolen Property and Additional Arrest
Following Choudhary's detailed statement, police moved swiftly to arrest Sanjaya Kumar Hati from his residence. During the arrest, officers recovered a pair of gold earrings that were confirmed to belong to the original complainant, Rabindra Nath Mishra.
Police verification revealed that Hati has a prior criminal record, adding context to his alleged involvement in this case. According to Choudhary's account, the stolen valuables were distributed among all participants after the robbery was completed.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The Nayapalli police have registered appropriate charges against the arrested individuals and continue their investigation to locate the remaining suspects mentioned in Choudhary's confession. Authorities are particularly focused on tracking down Santosh Mallik and Deepak Sutar, who allegedly participated directly in the robbery operation.
