Guwahati: Assam Police on Saturday arrested two individuals in the Kokrajhar district on charges of allegedly storing country-made weapons. Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the concealment of illegal firearms, a joint team of Assam Police and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) launched a search operation at the suspected location, leading to the seizure of the weapons.
The police have not disclosed detailed information about the specific types of weapons recovered. However, the discovery was made in a banana farm located at Chaudhury Ghat in the Gossaigaon area. Authorities confirmed that the farm was owned by one Raja Narzary.
The two arrested persons have been identified as Nipun Narzary and Brinda Narzary. According to Gossaigaon Police Station’s officer-in-charge Kaikhoseh Simte, “We were informed about the concealment of the firearms within the farm premises. Acting upon that, we found the weapons and have arrested two persons who were working as security guards. They received Rs 300 per night for their work.”
During interrogation, both Nipun and Brinda denied ownership of the weapons, claiming instead that the firearms had been placed there by someone else. Simte further stated that the investigation is ongoing to verify their statements and identify the actual owner of the illegal firearms.
Meanwhile, police teams are also making efforts to locate Raja Narzary, who may possess crucial information related to the case. The authorities are exploring all possible leads to uncover the broader network behind the storage of these weapons.
