In a significant breakthrough, Bokaro District Police have successfully apprehended two individuals linked to a sophisticated jewellery fraud case that targeted a woman from Dhanbad. The arrests, made on Sunday, culminated an investigation that spanned multiple districts and led to the recovery of melted gold and cash.
The Modus Operandi of the Fraud
The incident, which unfolded near a hotel in Bokaro's Sector-4 area, involved the accused allegedly impersonating an official. Using this false identity, they managed to deceive the victim, Anjali Sinha, a resident of Katrasgarh in Dhanbad district. Under false pretences, the perpetrators took away her gold ornaments along with Rs 30,000 in cash before fleeing the scene.
Police Investigation and Raids
Following a formal complaint by Sinha, a case was registered at the Sector-4 police station on December 16. Bokaro Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh spearheaded the investigation. Leveraging technical support and coordination between police teams from Bokaro and Patna, authorities conducted targeted raids.
These operations proved fruitful. The police recovered melted gold weighing 22.72 grams from a jewellery shop located in Fatuha, Patna. Additionally, cash and mobile phones were also seized during the action.
Arrests and Accused Identified
The primary accused has been identified as Sankalp Kumar, also known as Golu. He was arrested for his direct involvement in cheating the complainant. Furthermore, the police also took into custody Suryakant Soni, the owner of the Patna-based jewellery shop where the melted gold was found. Both are now facing legal proceedings for their alleged roles in the fraud.
SP Harvinder Singh commended the collaborative effort of the police teams, highlighting how inter-district coordination was crucial in cracking the case swiftly. This arrest serves as a warning to criminals operating with similar deceptive tactics across region borders.
