Two Arrested in Goa Fishing Trawler Murder

Panaji: Goa police on Thursday arrested two 30-year-old Jharkhand natives, Duryodhan Devsai Manjhi Laldev and Nandkumar Manjhi, in Nagpur in connection with a murder onboard a fishing trawler. After the murder, the unidentified accused persons had left the state.

Complaint and Investigation

Suresh Narayan Harikant, 42, of Karnataka, filed a complaint stating that two unidentified persons allegedly murdered his cousin brother on a fishing trawler in the open sea near the Vasco jetty. Agasaim Police Inspector Anant Gaonkar said an FIR was filed and continuous monitoring followed.

“Cell ID analysis received from the call monitoring cell was also examined to ascertain the movement of the suspects. Further investigation revealed that both the accused persons were travelling by train. Based on their location data and movement patterns, the investigating team identified the train they were in,” Gaonkar said.

Use of CCTV Footage

Simultaneously, CCTV footage from and around the Vasco fishing jetty was scrutinised, leading to the identification of the accused persons’ faces. Gaonkar said that the photographs and other relevant information were immediately circulated to railway police units along the suspected railway route.

“Personnel of the railway police force successfully traced, nabbed, and apprehended both accused persons at Nagpur railway station,” Gaonkar said.

Custody and Legal Proceedings

A team of Agasaim police subsequently travelled to Nagpur to take the accused persons into custody. “They have been brought to the Agasaim police station for further investigation and legal proceedings,” Gaonkar said, and added that both will be produced before the JMFC court at Merces for remand.

The swift action by Goa police, utilizing modern investigative techniques such as cell ID analysis and CCTV surveillance, led to the capture of the suspects across state borders. The accused are currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
