Patna: Police arrested two men in connection with the alleged gang rape of a woman and her sister-in-law in Gopalganj district on Sunday, following an investigation based on technical inputs and forensic evidence. The incident had occurred on April 23.
According to police, the two women were returning home around 1 am when a group of six youths intercepted them and forcibly dragged them into a nearby sugarcane field. The victims were allegedly sexually assaulted by the group before being abandoned. Despite the trauma, they managed to reach home and later informed their family members about the incident. A formal complaint was lodged on April 25, following which an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), naming six accused.
Acting on the directions of Superintendent of Police Vinay Tiwari, a special investigation team headed by Additional SP Saurabh Kumar Suman was constituted. The team carried out raids and analysed mobile and other technical data to trace the suspects.
Two accused — Ajay Kumar (30) and Nitesh Kumar Yadav (30) — were arrested from the Jaidpur–Patahra area on Sunday. Police said the duo allegedly confessed to their involvement during interrogation. Investigators have also recovered key evidence linked to the case.
Sadar SDPO Pranjal Tripathi said one more suspect has been detained for questioning and raids are ongoing to arrest the remaining four accused. “The victims have undergone medical examination and further legal procedures are underway. Efforts are being made to ensure a speedy trial so that justice is delivered at the earliest,” he said.
Police have assured strict action against all those involved in the crime.
