A joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) and Patna police arrested two individuals on Wednesday after recovering illegal firearms and ammunition during a raid in the Dhanarua police station area of Patna district. The operation was conducted based on specific intelligence inputs.
Details of the Arrest
The arrested persons have been identified as Rajaram Mahato alias Rajaram Singh, a resident of Faraspur under Chiksaura police station in Nalanda district, and Akhilesh Vishwakarma, a resident of Indo village under Bhagwanganj police station in Patna district. During the raid, the team recovered one semi-finished firearm, 108 live cartridges of .315 bore, 20 live cartridges of 7.65 mm, Rs 55,000 in cash, a motorcycle, and two cellphones.
Intelligence-led Operation
Acting on a specific intelligence report that Singh and his accomplice were planning to commit a crime in the Masaurhi and Dhanarua areas using illegal firearms, the team swiftly swung into action and apprehended both accused. The criminal backgrounds of the duo are currently being verified.
Police Statement
Kanhaiya Singh, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO-II), Masaurhi, stated, "Under instructions from senior officers, a drive is being conducted to arrest criminals and recover illegal arms. On June 10, we received inputs that some persons were moving through the area with illegal firearms and ammunition. Acting on the information, a joint team of STF and local police cordoned off the area and laid a trap."
"During checking at Viranchi Mor, two persons on a motorcycle were intercepted. A semi-finished firearm, ammunition, and cash were recovered from them. A case has been registered at Dhanarua police station and further investigation is underway," the SDPO added.
Ongoing Investigation
The police are now investigating the source of the illegal firearms and ammunition, as well as any potential links to other criminal activities in the region. The recovered items have been sent for forensic examination, and efforts are being made to trace the network supplying illegal weapons in the area.
