Dindigul: In a tragic incident, two minor brothers were found dead after drowning in a pond near Oddanchatram in Dindigul district on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Velmurugan (13) and Logeswaran (7), sons of Arumugam and Rathinam from Kasi Goundan Pudur near Oddanchatram.
Family Background
According to police, the couple had been living separately due to marital differences. Rathinam was residing with her two sons at a farm in Alanampatti, where she worked as a daily wage labourer.
Sequence of Events
Rathinam noticed her sons missing from Monday afternoon and initiated a search in the nearby areas. On Tuesday afternoon, local residents spotted bodies floating in a pond and alerted the police. Police rushed to the spot and identified the bodies as those of the missing boys.
Preliminary inquiries suggested that the siblings may have drowned while playing near the pond after attempting to catch ducks. Fire and rescue services personnel from Oddanchatram were called in. The bodies were retrieved and sent to the Oddanchatram government hospital for postmortem examination.
Investigation
Ambilikai police have registered a case and are investigating further to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
