Patna: Two people lost their lives and another sustained serious injuries when a wall of an under-construction building collapsed on them near Rukanpura Devi Sthan under the Rupaspur police station area in Danapur on Wednesday night. The incident occurred amid heavy rain and strong winds, police said.
Victims Identified
The deceased were identified as Tribhuvan Prasad Singh (73), a resident of Tilak Nagar, and Anita Devi (45), a resident of Rukanpura, originally from Naubatpur. The injured person has been admitted to a nearby private hospital and is undergoing treatment.
How the Incident Unfolded
According to police, both victims were returning home on foot when a portion of the wall from the sixth floor of the under-construction building suddenly collapsed with a loud crash, triggering panic in the locality. Residents rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation, pulling the victims out from the debris and taking them to a nearby private hospital. However, two of them succumbed to their injuries.
Police Statement
Station house officer (SHO) of Rupaspur police station, Shashi Bhushan Singh, confirmed the incident and said the collapse was likely caused by strong winds and heavy rainfall. “The wall had been constructed the same day using brick and cement. Due to intense rain and wind, it weakened and eventually gave way,” the SHO said.
He added that the elderly man was referred to Paras Hospital, where he died during treatment, while the woman was taken to Kurji Hospital, where she was declared dead. The building under construction belongs to Nand Kishore Singh. Police have initiated an investigation to determine whether proper safety measures were followed at the site.
Safety Concerns Raised
This tragic incident has raised questions about construction safety standards in the area. Local residents have demanded stricter enforcement of building regulations, especially during adverse weather conditions. The police are probing whether the contractor adhered to safety norms while erecting the wall.
