New Delhi: Two separate road accidents in the early hours of Sunday resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to six others. In both cases, the drivers of the involved SUVs were found to be under the influence of alcohol and have been arrested by the police.
First Incident in Vasant Kunj
The first accident occurred in the jurisdiction of the Vasant Kunj South police station. A police control room call at around 4:25 am alerted authorities to a fatal crash on the Rajokri flyover, near Mahipalpur in southwest Delhi. The collision took place on the carriageway heading toward Gurgaon.
According to police reports, an SUV allegedly struck a tempo from behind, causing it to overturn. The impact of the collision resulted in the death of one woman and left six others injured, including three children, two women, and a man. The deceased was identified as 47-year-old Kripa Devi. The injured individuals are Ishan (2), Vansh (8), Naksh (14), Naina (34), Rahul (37), and Savitri Devi (60). All victims were related to each other and were residents of Seelampur in northeast Delhi.
A call was also made to the fire service regarding the accident. The women in the tempo were homemakers, while Rahul was driving the vehicle. The others were seated at the back. They were traveling from Nand Nagri to Alwar to offer prayers at a temple. The SUV driver, who appeared intoxicated, was apprehended at the scene and underwent a medical examination. He was identified as Manuj, a 40-year-old property dealer who was traveling from Dhaula Kuan to his residence in Gurgaon.
Second Incident in West Delhi
In a separate incident reported around the same time in west Delhi, an unidentified 55-year-old pedestrian was killed after being hit by a speeding SUV. The accident occurred at 3:50 am at the Rajouri Garden intersection, which falls under the Moti Nagar police station.
The victim and the SUV driver were rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared the pedestrian brought dead. The driver has been identified as 27-year-old Harshit Raj Dogra, a resident of Ramesh Nagar. Police stated that Dogra was driving under the influence of alcohol while returning home from Mansarovar Garden. A case has been registered, and he has been arrested.
