Pune: The Bibvewadi police on Sunday detained a youngster and a minor boy, while a search is underway for their two accomplices, for allegedly robbing a 19-year-old autorickshaw driver of his vehicle, mobile phone and Rs 300 at Upper Indiranagar around 3.30 am on Friday.
The autorickshaw driver, Siddheshwar Mundhe of Ambegaon Budruk, lodged a complaint in this regard with the Bibvewadi police on Saturday morning. According to the complaint, the four accused, who were riding a scooter, followed the autorickshaw in Upper Indiranagar and asked Mundhe to stop his vehicle.
As soon as Mundhe stopped the autorickshaw, they allegedly threatened him and demanded money. When Mundhe refused to hand over the money, the accused assaulted him.
“They then overpowered Mundhe, and one of them sat in the driver’s seat of the autorickshaw and started it. They then robbed him of Rs300 from his pocket and took away his mobile phone before fleeing away in the auto,” senior inspector Ashwini Satpute of the Bibvewadi police said.
After committing the robbery, the suspects sped away towards Kondhwa with both the vehicles. “We obtained the CCTV footage of the crime scene from a private establishment and launched a search for the suspects. On Sunday we detained a youngster and a minor boy. Both are school dropouts,” she said.
