Tragic Accident Claims Two Lives After Wedding Celebration in Prayagraj
In a devastating late-night incident, two young men lost their lives when two speeding cars plunged into a canal in Prayagraj. The accident occurred on Sunday night as the vehicles were returning from a marriage ceremony, resulting in a frantic rescue operation that saved seven others.
Details of the Fatal Crash
According to police reports, the two cars were traveling on the Barbari Kala village road in the trans-Yamuna area of the district. The vehicles, carrying a total of nine occupants, lost control, smashed through the railing of a bridge, and fell into the Belan canal. The cars were coming from the Naini side when the tragedy unfolded.
Police officials stated that the driver of the leading car lost control first, causing the vehicle to crash through the bridge railing and plunge into the water. The driver of the following car also lost control and met the same fate, resulting in both vehicles ending up in the canal.
Rescue Operation and Casualties
Upon receiving the alert, teams from Koraon police and local swimmers rushed to the scene to conduct a rescue operation. Villagers at the spot reported that seven occupants were rescued through the joint efforts of police, swimmers, and local residents.
The two deceased individuals have been identified as Pradeep (30) from Banda and Aneesh (20) from Ballia. Their bodies were recovered on Monday morning after an extensive search operation.
DCP (Yamuna Nagar) Vivek Chandra Yadav provided additional details, explaining that there were four occupants in one car and five in the other. The group was traveling to attend a marriage ceremony in Gudha village on the Uttar Pradesh-Madhya Pradesh border when the accident occurred.
Challenges During Rescue Efforts
The rescue operation faced significant challenges due to the canal conditions. Police teams had to get the flow of water in the canal stopped to facilitate the rescue efforts. After the successful extraction of seven survivors, both cars were eventually fished out from the canal by police personnel.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers of nighttime driving, particularly on rural roads, and serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety measures. The local community has been left in shock by the sudden loss of two young lives following what should have been a joyous wedding celebration.
