A tragic night on Gurgaon's roads claimed the lives of two young men in separate motorcycle accidents on Tuesday, leaving police probing a mysterious skid and searching for a hit-and-run driver.
Mysterious Death in Farrukhnagar
A 34-year-old man, identified as Vikram from Sirsa, died under puzzling circumstances near Khetawas village in the Farrukhnagar area. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM. Vikram, who had recently moved to Khetawas and was employed at a local logistics company, was riding a motorcycle borrowed from a friend on his way home when he suddenly lost balance and fell.
Police officials stated that an examination of CCTV footage from the vicinity revealed no other vehicle approaching or colliding with him, ruling out a direct collision. "He was on his way to his home when he lost balance and fell," an officer recounted.
Police Explore Multiple Angles
Investigators are now considering other possibilities that could have caused the fatal skid. These include the chance that Vikram was momentarily blinded by the sharp headlight of an oncoming vehicle or that he suffered a sudden medical emergency, such as a cardiac arrest, while riding. The definitive cause is expected to be clarified only after the postmortem report is prepared.
Police have not registered a First Information Report (FIR) in this case and have instead initiated inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Vikram's identity was established using an Aadhaar card recovered from his pocket.
Hit-and-Run Near Manesar
In a separate and equally devastating incident on the same evening, a 20-year-old man named Mayank lost his life in a hit-and-run accident near Sharwan village under the Manesar police station limits.
Mayank, a resident of New Colony in Manesar who worked for a private firm in the industrial hub, had left his home on his motorcycle for personal work around 9 PM. He did not return. His family was informed of the tragedy the next morning after police traced him.
Search for the Fleeing Driver
According to the police investigation, the collision occurred around 9:30 PM on the highway near Sehrawan village when a speeding truck rammed into Mayank's motorcycle. The truck driver fled the spot, leaving the victim critically injured. A police team that arrived later sent the body to the civil hospital mortuary.
Officers are now scouring CCTV footage from cameras installed along the route to identify the vehicle and the driver who fled. An FIR has been registered against the unidentified driver under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death by negligence) of the BNS. After an autopsy on Wednesday, Mayank's body was handed over to his family for the last rites.
Police confirmed that efforts are actively underway to trace the offending vehicle and piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.
These two back-to-back accidents have highlighted the persistent dangers on the roads in and around Gurgaon, raising urgent concerns about road safety and driver accountability.
