Police in Ghaziabad have successfully arrested two individuals following a dramatic gunfight, cracking a case involving a violent robbery and assault on an elderly couple in the Kavinagar area. The accused, who posed as bank officials to gain entry into the victims' home, are now in custody with stolen valuables and weapons recovered.
The Dramatic Arrest and Recovery
The breakthrough came on a Saturday when officers from the Kavinagar police station were conducting routine checks near Gunpur Society in the Industrial Area. Their vigilance paid off when they spotted the two suspects. An encounter ensued between the police and the accused, resulting in one of the suspects sustaining injuries. Both were subsequently apprehended.
From their possession, the police recovered significant evidence, including stolen gold jewellery, a motorcycle, and a pistol along with live cartridges. This recovery directly linked them to the brutal crime committed over a week earlier.
Details of the November 27 Attack
The case dates back to November 27, when a complaint was registered by Dinesh Sharma. His parents-in-law, 72-year-old Narendra Kumar Sharma and 70-year-old Madhu Sharma, were targeted in their Kavinagar residence.
According to the complaint, a young man arrived at their house in the afternoon, pretending to be a bank official. He introduced himself as a bank representative and initiated a conversation about funds and pensions. When the elderly couple asked for his mobile number and bank-related documents for verification, he refused.
The situation turned violent when the imposter tried to push Narendra Kumar into a room and attacked him with a knife. Hearing the commotion, Madhu Sharma came down from the first floor and confronted the assailant. She was also attacked, suffering injuries to her mouth, chest, and hand.
As she raised an alarm, the accused snatched her earrings and a gold chain from her neck. He then fled the scene after locking the elderly couple inside their own house.
Accused Have a Criminal History
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ravi Sharma alias Lovely and Ankush Sharma alias Ankur. Both are residents of Chhijarsi village in Sector 63, Gautam Buddh Nagar. Police investigations revealed that the duo already has prior criminal cases registered against them at the local police station in their area, indicating a history of unlawful activities.
The swift action by the Kavinagar police, leading to the arrest and recovery, has brought some relief in the case that highlighted the vulnerability of senior citizens to such deceptive and violent crimes. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
