Two Juveniles Detained in Connection with Fatal Beating Case in Ganjam
Police authorities in Berhampur have taken into custody two 16-year-old juveniles, one of whom is a Plus II student, for their alleged involvement in a violent incident that resulted in the death of a man from Kandhamal. The detention occurred on Sunday following a tragic event at Sardul village in Ganjam district on Friday night.
Details of the Incident and Police Action
According to official reports, the teenagers are considered the primary accused in the brutal assault on Banadhar Pradhan, a resident of Kurumingia in Kandhamal. The victim was reportedly tied to an electric pole in Sardul and subjected to a severe beating by a group of individuals.
Police personnel managed to rescue Banadhar Pradhan in critical condition and immediately transported him to the sub-divisional hospital in Bhanjanagar. Despite medical efforts, doctors at the facility declared him dead upon arrival.
This recent detention follows the earlier arrest of twenty people on Saturday in connection with the same case. Inspector in-charge Jeebanananda Jena of the Bhanjanagar police station confirmed that additional suspects allegedly involved in the incident remain at large.
"Some more persons, allegedly involved in the case, are on the run. Raids are being conducted in various places to nab them," stated Inspector Jena during a briefing about the ongoing investigation.
Family Response and Background Information
The victim's son, Bikram Pradhan, provided emotional testimony about his father's character and occupation. "He left the house three days ago to collect vegetables. My father was not involved in theft," Bikram asserted, describing Banadhar as a vegetable seller by trade.
Following standard procedure, the deceased's body was handed over to family members after completion of the autopsy process at the medical facility.
Circumstances Leading to the Tragic Event
Sources familiar with the investigation revealed that the incident originated from allegations of theft at a locked residence in Sardul village. According to these accounts, at least three individuals, including Banadhar Pradhan, were allegedly involved in looting valuables from the home of Sushant Gouda.
The situation escalated when a neighbor noticed the suspicious activity and raised an alarm, alerting other villagers. While community members managed to apprehend Banadhar Pradhan at the scene, the other suspects reportedly escaped capture.
This development has brought renewed attention to law enforcement procedures in rural areas and the handling of suspected criminal activities by local communities before police intervention can occur.
