Two killed as truck rams parked pickup in Anand

A horrific road accident in Gujarat's Anand district claimed two lives in the early hours of Monday after a speeding truck rammed into a stationary goods carrier, causing it to burst into flames. The incident occurred near Ambav village in Anklav taluka.

Details of the Tragic Collision

The victims have been identified as Vijay Makwana, the driver, and his partner Alpa Solanki. They were travelling in a pickup vehicle that was transporting barrels of light diesel oil (LDO) from Rajkot to Maharashtra. According to police reports, the pickup had been parked on the roadside due to a mechanical breakdown when the accident happened.

A speeding truck collided with the stationary vehicle from behind. The impact was severe, and the pickup, laden with flammable material, immediately caught fire. Both Vijay and Alpa sustained critical injuries from the collision and suffered severe burns in the ensuing blaze.

Victims' Background and Aftermath

An offence in the case was registered by Vijay's younger brother, Ajay Makwana. Ajay informed the police that Vijay lived with him in Rajkot and was employed as a driver with a transport company that owned the pickup. Vijay had come home on Sunday evening and mentioned his trip to Maharashtra.

Alpa Solanki, a native of Panchmahal district, had been residing in Rajkot with Vijay. Ajay stated that the two were in a relationship, and Alpa had decided to accompany Vijay on the fateful journey.

The fire that followed the collision was intense, completely gutting both the pickup and the truck. In a troubling turn of events, the driver of the truck allegedly fled the scene after the accident, leaving the victims in the burning wreckage.

Ongoing Investigation and Safety Concerns

Local authorities are investigating the exact cause of the crash and are searching for the absconding truck driver. This tragic incident near Vadodara highlights the severe risks associated with roadside breakdowns, especially when vehicles are carrying hazardous materials like fuel. It also raises questions about road safety and the accountability of drivers involved in such high-speed collisions.
