Navi Mumbai: In a tragic road accident, two young men from Uran lost their lives after a head-on collision between two motorcycles early Monday morning. The incident occurred around 3 am opposite Harishchandra Gawand Garden on the Uran-Mora Road. One motorcycle was heading towards Uran township, while the other was moving towards Mora village. The Uran police are investigating whether any other vehicle was involved, as there were no eyewitnesses to the crash.
Details of the Accident
The deceased have been identified as Mahesh Chandekar, 35, a resident of Bori village, and Nikhil Kukade, 38, from Nagaon. Chandekar was riding his motorcycle towards Uran, while Kukade was on his Bullet motorcycle heading towards Mora. According to police, rash and negligent driving by both riders led to the head-on collision. The impact threw them several feet away, causing severe head injuries and other fatal wounds. Both were declared dead on the spot by the time police arrived and were rushed to the government rural hospital in Uran.
Complaint and Investigation
A complaint has been filed by Vaibhav Kadu with the Uran police. A case of fatal motor accident has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing. Authorities are examining the scene and looking for any evidence that might shed light on the exact cause of the crash.
Residents Demand Safety Measures
Local residents have expressed deep concern over the deaths and are demanding immediate installation of speed breakers on the road stretch. They claim that motorists treat the road like a highway, leading to frequent accidents. Santosh Pawar, a Uran resident, stated, "Some people had earlier opposed the erection of a speed breaker at this spot, and there was political pressure on the issue. The accident site is not covered by CCTV cameras. Both victims were employed in private jobs." Residents urge authorities to prioritize road safety to prevent such tragedies in the future.
