Tragic Collision Claims Two Lives on Ludhiana-Ferozepur Elevated Road
A devastating high-speed accident on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur elevated road resulted in the deaths of a young university student and a father of two on Friday morning. The incident occurred near the Verka Milk Plant at approximately 8:30 AM, leaving a scene of utter destruction.
Details of the Fatal Crash
The tragedy unfolded when a speeding car, driven by 21-year-old Gauransh Basin from Kidwai Nagar, lost control while traveling from the city toward Baddowal village. The vehicle violently jumped the median strip and collided head-on with a motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that it tore open the car's roof and completely mangled the motorcycle beyond recognition.
Both the car driver and the motorcyclist, identified as 43-year-old Jagdish Singh from Dashmesh Nagar, died instantly at the scene. Jagdish Singh, an employee of a courier company, was reportedly returning home after dropping his two children off at school. Despite wearing a helmet, the force of the collision proved fatal.
Injuries and Police Investigation
Two other students who were passengers in the car sustained injuries in the crash. Charanjot Singh remains hospitalized in stable condition, while Arshnoor Singh received treatment for minor injuries and has been discharged. The students had established a carpooling arrangement to commute together to their private college in Baddowal village.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Ajitpal Singh, head of the Raghunath police post, stated that excessive speed appears to be the primary factor in the accident. "The vehicle crossed the divider and hit the biker, dragging the motorcycle for several metres," the ASI explained.
Following a complaint from Jagdish Singh's family, the Sarabha Nagar police have registered a case of reckless driving and causing death by negligence. While the driver of the car is among the deceased, authorities are keeping the investigation open to determine if mechanical failure or road conditions contributed to the loss of control.
Community Impact and Safety Concerns
The tragic incident has highlighted serious concerns about road safety on the elevated corridor. The collision's intensity underscores the dangers of speeding vehicles on this busy route connecting Ludhiana with Ferozepur. This accident serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of reckless driving, particularly in areas with heavy morning traffic when commuters, students, and parents are traveling.
Local authorities are examining all aspects of the crash, including vehicle condition, driver experience, and potential environmental factors that might have played a role. The community mourns the loss of two lives cut short in what began as a routine morning commute.
