Two Fatal Road Accidents Rock Trichy-Chennai Highway
In a tragic series of events, two individuals lost their lives in separate road accidents on the Trichy-Chennai national highway within city limits. The incidents occurred between Saturday night and early Sunday morning, leaving one victim unidentified due to severe injuries sustained in the impact.
First Accident Near Palpannai RoB
According to police reports, the first accident took place around 9:15 PM on Saturday near the railway Road Over Bridge (RoB) at Palpannai. K Murugesan, a 59-year-old resident of Gandhi Market, was riding a two-wheeler from Sanjeevi Nagar junction towards Palpannai. M Gopinath, a 20-year-old from Perambalur, was riding a sports bike in the same direction and allegedly collided with Murugesan's vehicle from behind while approaching the RoB.
Both riders were thrown off their vehicles in the collision. Tragically, an unidentified vehicle subsequently ran over Gopinath, resulting in his immediate death at the scene. Murugesan sustained a fractured leg and was promptly admitted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Second Incident at Mannarpuram RoB
The second accident was reported around 2 AM on Sunday near the Mannarpuram RoB on the Trichy-Chennai highway. An unidentified man, estimated to be around 50 years old, was standing near the bridge when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle. He died on the spot, and his identity remains unknown as police continue their efforts to establish it.
Police Investigation Underway
City police have confirmed that both accidents are under active investigation. Efforts are ongoing to trace the vehicles involved in these fatal incidents. The traffic north and south investigation wings are leading the probes to determine the exact causes and circumstances surrounding the accidents.
