Tragedy struck Bengaluru on Sunday evening as two separate road accidents claimed the lives of two individuals in different parts of the city. The incidents, occurring in Mahadevapura and Devanahalli, have once again highlighted pressing concerns over road safety in India's tech capital.
Software Employee Dies in Mahadevapura Bike Crash
In the first incident, a 33-year-old software company employee lost his life after a motorcycle accident on Hosa Road in Mahadevapura. The victim has been identified as Ankush Mishra, originally from Chandigarh. According to police reports, Mishra was riding pillion on a bike driven by his 28-year-old friend, Rether Garg.
The accident occurred when Garg reportedly lost control of the two-wheeler and crashed into a road divider. The impact caused both men to fall. Ankush Mishra sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the spot. Rether Garg survived the crash but was injured and is currently undergoing medical treatment. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the loss of control.
Pedestrian Hit by Speeding Car in Devanahalli
In a concurrent and equally tragic event, a pedestrian was killed on National Highway 44 (NH 44) in the Devanahalli area. The deceased is Pintu Paswan, aged 39, a labourer employed with a private firm working at Kempegowda International Airport.
Paswan was attempting to cross the busy highway when he was struck by a Toyota Innova bearing the registration number KA-50-ME-9972. The vehicle was reportedly speeding at the time of the collision. The pedestrian suffered severe head injuries from the impact and succumbed to his wounds before he could receive medical aid.
Local police have registered a case against the driver of the Innova and have launched a full investigation into the circumstances leading to the fatal hit-and-run.
Aftermath and Ongoing Investigations
Both accidents have left families grieving and have prompted renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and improved road infrastructure in and around Bengaluru. The Mahadevapura police are looking into whether rider fatigue or road conditions contributed to the bike accident.
Meanwhile, the Devanahalli police are focusing on the charge of speeding and negligent driving. These back-to-back fatalities on a single evening underscore the critical need for heightened vigilance among both motorists and pedestrians.
