Patna: Police recovered two live sutli bombs from the premises of Patna University's Iqbal Hostel following a tip-off about a possible clash triggered by a personal rivalry among student groups.
Search Operation at Hostels
A team from Pirbahore police station conducted a search at the hostel late Monday night, which continued until the early hours of Tuesday. The two live bombs were found in a dilapidated building located behind Iqbal Hostel. The police also carried out extensive searches at Iqbal, Jackson, Nadvi, Canvendish, and Minto hostels, under the supervision of Town DSP-I Rajesh Ranjan, until 2am on Tuesday. However, no other recoveries were made from the hostels.
Bomb Disposal and Investigation
A bomb detection and disposal squad was called to the campus to safely defuse the bombs. Police stated that the bombs would be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further examination. Town DSP-I said, 'Following the recovery of bombs, efforts are underway to identify the miscreants involved in this criminal activity. A case has been registered against unidentified persons in this regard.'
He added that the search was conducted after information was received that a fight between two factions of students would take place on the PU campus and that a group would use the bombs. 'We have increased police patrolling and sent notices to the deans of the hostels to ask the wardens to keep a tab on the situation and ensure that no outsiders enter the campus,' he said.
