Two Maoists Killed in Encounter with Security Forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur District
In a significant development in the ongoing fight against left-wing extremism, two Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district on Thursday morning. The incident occurred during an anti-Naxal operation along the strategic Indravati river belt, a key area for Maoist activities in the region.
Operation Based on Specific Intelligence
A joint team of security forces launched the operation based on specific intelligence regarding Maoist presence in the Indravati river area, particularly in the Jangla region. During the combing operation in the forested stretch, an exchange of fire broke out between the security forces and the Maoists, leading to the fatal confrontation.
After the encounter, search operations were conducted, resulting in the recovery of two bodies of uniformed Maoists from the spot. Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Yadav confirmed the recovery, highlighting the success of the intelligence-driven mission.
Weapons and Materials Seized
In addition to the two fatalities, security forces seized a significant cache of weapons and materials from the encounter site. The seized items include:
- An SLR rifle
- An INSAS rifle
- A 12-bore rifle
- Explosives
- Other Maoist-related materials
This seizure underscores the operational capabilities of the Maoists in the area and the ongoing efforts by security forces to disrupt their supply chains.
Ongoing Search Operations and Strategic Importance
Bastar range Inspector General P Sundarraj stated that search operations are still underway in the area. Further details will be shared after a detailed assessment is completed, indicating that the situation remains fluid and under close monitoring.
The Indravati river belt is recognized as a key operational corridor for Maoist movement across south Bastar. In recent months, security forces have intensified area domination and intelligence-based operations in this region to curb extremist activities and enhance security for local communities.
This encounter marks another step in the persistent efforts to address left-wing extremism in Chhattisgarh, with authorities continuing to prioritize intelligence gathering and strategic operations to maintain peace and order in the affected districts.
