Chennai: Two third-year medical students died, and two of their classmates sustained injuries after their car crashed into a median and overturned near the Karanodai flyover in Tiruvallur district during the early hours of Saturday.
Details of the Victims
Police identified the deceased as P Amrish, 23, from Madurai, and S Saran, 23, from Dharmapuri. The injured students were identified as A Mukesh, 21, and R Aban, 23. All four were studying at a private medical college in Manjankaranai near Periyapalayam in Tiruvallur district.
Sequence of Events
The students had left for Red Hills late on Friday night to visit a friend and were returning to their residence near Ponneri when the accident occurred around 2:30 am. Preliminary investigation revealed that Mukesh, who was driving the car, lost control of the vehicle while approaching the Karanodai flyover. The car crashed into a median and overturned, leaving all four students severely injured.
Response and Investigation
Amrish and Saran died on the spot. Upon receiving information, police personnel from the Red Hills traffic investigation wing reached the scene and sent the injured students to a hospital. The bodies of the deceased were recovered and sent to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai for postmortem examination.
Police have registered a case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident.
