Details of the Fatal Collision

According to police authorities, the tragedy unfolded when the two men, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, engaged in a physical altercation that spilled onto the busy highway. A container truck passing through the area at high speed hit them, resulting in immediate fatalities for both individuals. Police personnel swiftly arrived at the scene upon receiving information to assess the situation and initiate an investigation.

Victim Identified and Background of the Incident

One of the deceased has been identified as Suraj Kumar, a 30-year-old native of Chilla village in Basti district. Suraj worked alongside his wife, Indrawati, at a fast-food establishment near IIT Gate in Kanpur. Indrawati provided a harrowing account to the police, revealing that a dispute erupted late Monday night between the shop owner and some intoxicated customers.

After the initial argument, the customers moved a short distance away from the shop. However, Suraj and the shop owner reportedly followed them, leading to a renewed confrontation on the road. During this heated exchange, Suraj and one of the customers began pushing each other, inadvertently stepping onto the highway where the fatal collision with the container occurred.

When Suraj failed to return home late at night, a concerned Indrawati alerted UP-112. Subsequently, Mandhana police showed her photographs of the accident victims, and she identified one as her husband. Based on her complaint, a formal report was registered at the Bithoor police station.

Bithoor inspector Ashok Kumar Nishad confirmed that both deceased individuals were on the highway during the fight when the container struck them. Utilizing CCTV footage from the area, police have detained a suspected container for further examination.
