Dindigul: In a tragic incident, two minor brothers were found dead after drowning in a pond near Oddanchatram in Dindigul district on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Velmurugan, aged 13, and Logeswaran, aged 7, sons of Arumugam and Rathinam from Kasi Goundan Pudur near Oddanchatram.
Background of the Incident
According to police, the couple had been living separately due to marital differences. Rathinam, the mother, was residing with her two sons at a farm in Alanampatti, where she worked as a daily wage labourer. On Monday afternoon, Rathinam noticed her sons missing and immediately launched a search in the nearby areas.
Discovery of Bodies
On Tuesday afternoon, local residents spotted bodies floating in a pond and alerted the police. Police rushed to the spot and identified the bodies as those of the missing boys. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the siblings may have drowned while playing near the pond, possibly while trying to catch ducks.
Recovery and Investigation
Fire and rescue services personnel from Oddanchatram were called to the scene. The bodies were retrieved and sent to the Oddanchatram government hospital for postmortem examination. Ambilikai police have registered a case and are investigating further to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy.
