Two Rape Cases in Mohali; No Arrests Made

The police in Mohali district have registered First Information Reports (FIRs) in two distinct rape cases, though no arrests have been made so far. One case originates from the Zirakpur police station area, while the other is linked to the Phase XI police station in Mohali.

Zirakpur Case: Alleged Rape After Promise of Marriage

According to police sources, the first case involves Rohit Kumar, a resident of Pathankot, who is accused of raping a 26-year-old woman. The victim, who hails from Panchkula in Haryana, reported that she had been in a relationship with Kumar for a significant period. During this time, he repeatedly assured her of marriage, which she relied upon.

However, when she later urged him to formalise their relationship, he allegedly refused and severed all contact. Based on her complaint, authorities registered a case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Zirakpur police station. Officials have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to trace Kumar, who is currently absconding.

Phase XI Case: Sexual Assault Allegations

The second case pertains to the Phase XI police station area in Mohali. Here, a 32-year-old woman has accused Gurvinder Singh of sexually assaulting her. In her complaint, she stated that Singh allegedly assaulted her, tore her clothes, and raped her. Police have registered a case based on her statement, and investigations are underway.

Police Response and Ongoing Efforts

In both instances, the police have acted swiftly by filing FIRs, but no arrests have been made as of now. Authorities are actively working to locate the accused individuals and gather further evidence. The cases highlight the challenges in addressing such serious crimes in the district.

Residents and legal experts are closely monitoring the developments, emphasizing the need for timely justice and support for the victims. The use of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in the Zirakpur case underscores the evolving legal framework in India for handling sexual offenses.
