Indore: Two siblings died after accidentally falling into an unsecured private well while playing near their home in Udaipuriya village near Thandla in Jhabua district on Monday evening.
The siblings, Shani Raj and Nandini, both children of Raghu Maida were living with their grandparents as their parents had migrated to Surat for work. The well is located on a slope and lacks a protective parapet wall. Locals said that the siblings were playing near their home when they slipped and fell into the well.
After receiving information about the incident, a Dial-112 team and Thandla police station in-charge Ashok Kanesh reached the spot along with police personnel. With the assistance of villagers, both bodies were retrieved from the well and sent to Thandla Community Health Centre.
The bodies were handed over to the family after postmortem examination on Tuesday.
The latest tragedy is the third incident involving open wells in Jhabua district in just over two weeks. Earlier, 12-year-old Shivani drowned after falling into a well near Kalyanpura, while 70-year-old Titli Bai lost her life after falling into an open well in Kharadu Chhoti village.
