In Madurai and Theni, two police sub-inspectors have been suspended for separate incidents of misconduct. A special sub-inspector (SSI) from Madurai city police was suspended following corruption allegations, while a sub-inspector in Theni faced action for involvement in a quarrel during his joining duty.
Madurai SSI Suspended for Bribery
The SSI of Mathichiyam police station, S Mahendran, was placed under suspension after a video clip surfaced showing him allegedly demanding a bribe from a lorry driver. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday in the Othakadai area, where the officer was seen harassing a driver who was unloading goods. The viral video sparked public outrage, prompting the police department to take swift disciplinary action.
Theni SI Suspended for Quarrel
In a separate case, sub-inspector P Ramapandian, formerly attached to Pattiveeranpatty police station in Dindigul district, was relieved on May 26 and transferred to Theni district. While joining at Andipatti police station on May 30, he became involved in a quarrel. A case was registered against him, and he was suspended effective from Tuesday due to misconduct.
Additional Action in Kanyakumari
In Kanyakumari district, police constable Arul was transferred to the armed reserve after being involved in an allegation of assault against some individuals. The transfers and suspensions reflect the department's commitment to addressing misconduct promptly.
