In a significant breakthrough, the Udupi police have arrested two members of the notorious 'Tatto 313 Gang' and recovered gold ornaments valued at Rs 7.9 lakh. The arrests were made following a tip-off and sustained surveillance by the local law enforcement authorities.
Modus Operandi
During interrogation, the accused confessed that they specifically targeted locked houses situated near railway tracks. They would carefully observe the movements of residents and strike when the houses were unoccupied. The gang specialized in decamping with valuable items, particularly gold ornaments, which are easier to dispose of quickly.
Recovery and Investigation
The police recovered a substantial amount of gold jewelry from the possession of the arrested individuals. The recovered items are believed to be the proceeds of multiple burglaries committed in the region. Investigators are now working to trace the original owners of the ornaments and link the suspects to other unsolved cases.
The arrested gang members have been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigations are underway to identify other members of the gang who may still be at large. The Udupi police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity near their homes.
Community Alert
Authorities have advised homeowners, especially those living near railway tracks, to ensure their properties are secure and to consider installing surveillance systems. The police have also increased patrols in vulnerable areas to deter similar crimes.
