Akola: Two undertrial prisoners lodged in Akola District Jail died within 48 hours while undergoing medical treatment, officials said. They were shifted to hospital after their health deteriorated.
Incident Details
The first incident occurred on the night of May 25, when Deepak Ramdas Chatarkar (42), a resident of Belkhed in Telhara tehsil, fell ill. Chatarkar had been in judicial custody since May 22 in a murder case.
As per jail superintendent Mahendra Joshi, Chatarkar was examined by the prison doctor and immediately referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he was declared brought dead.
Second Death
On May 26, another undertrial prisoner, Pralhad Raipure (46), a resident of Jigaon in Buldhana, died during treatment. Raipure had complained of health issues and was taken to the government medical college and hospital, where he passed away.
Police said that accidental death reports were registered in both cases at Kotwali police station. The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding these deaths.
