In a dramatic turn of events late Monday night, the Janta Nagar area of Ludhiana witnessed tension after two youths allegedly opened fire on a Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) employee following a heated argument. The victim had a narrow escape as the bullet missed its target. Quick-thinking locals overpowered the suspects and handed them over to the police.
Incident Details
According to reports, Arun Prasad, an employee of the Janta Nagar Electricity Department, was standing outside his office around 12:30 am when two youths arrived at the spot and engaged in an altercation with him. When he entered the office, they followed him inside and fired a shot at him from point-blank range. Fortunately, the bullet missed its target. The youths also allegedly assaulted him. Their attempt to loot the victim was foiled as the sound of the gunshot and ensuing commotion drew nearby residents to the scene. The locals overpowered the suspects, thrashed them, and informed the police. Officials from the Shimlapuri police station arrived promptly and took the suspects into custody.
Suspects Identified
SI Salwinder Pal confirmed that the suspects have been identified as Pankaj and Krishna. The matter is being investigated by the special cell.
Police Investigation
ADCP (Crime) Amandeep Singh Brar stated that preliminary investigations suggest the incident stemmed from a quarrel outside a pan shop. Due to the proximity of the police station, the police acted swiftly and apprehended the suspects along with the weapon. The police are also probing whether the duo has any links with a criminal gang or has been involved in previous criminal cases.
The quick response of the public and police ensured that the suspects were apprehended without further harm. The investigation is ongoing to uncover any deeper criminal connections.
