Uber Bike Driver Allegedly Molests Woman During Late-Night Ride in Delhi

A disturbing incident has emerged from the national capital, where an Uber bike driver is accused of molesting a female passenger during a late-night ride. The alleged assault occurred in the early hours of Thursday, March 12, sending shockwaves through the city and raising serious concerns about passenger safety on ride-hailing platforms.

Details of the Alleged Incident

According to the complaint filed with authorities, the woman booked an Uber bike ride through the mobile application at approximately 1:28 am. Her journey was scheduled from Rohini Sector 15 to MP Block market in Pitampura, a routine trip that quickly turned into a nightmare.

The driver, identified as "Sachin" on the Uber app, arrived at the pickup location and initially began the trip as planned. However, the situation deteriorated rapidly when the driver allegedly started behaving inappropriately shortly after departure.

Escalation of the Harassment

The victim reported that the driver repeatedly touched her in an indecent manner despite her objections. When she protested his actions, the accused allegedly escalated the situation by riding the bike at dangerously high speeds and applying sudden brakes, deliberately creating a frightening and uncomfortable experience for the passenger.

As the harassment intensified, the woman demanded that the driver stop the vehicle. Instead of complying, she alleged that he grabbed her from behind and molested her while simultaneously threatening to kill her if she raised an alarm or sought help.

Route Deviation and Escape

Adding to the victim's terror, the driver reportedly deviated from the predetermined route displayed on the Uber application. This unauthorized change in direction heightened the woman's fear for her personal safety, creating a sense of isolation and vulnerability.

In a desperate attempt to protect herself, the passenger began shouting loudly and threatened to jump from the moving bike. This assertive response prompted the accused to finally stop the vehicle near Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in the F-U Block area of Pitampura, where he dropped her and fled the scene immediately.

Police Investigation and Legal Status

Local police authorities have confirmed receiving the formal complaint and are currently examining the allegations in detail. As of now, no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in connection with the incident, but investigations are ongoing to verify the claims and identify the perpetrator.

Important Note: The identity of the victim has been protected in accordance with Supreme Court directives regarding cases of sexual assault, ensuring her privacy and dignity are maintained throughout the legal process.

This alarming incident highlights critical safety concerns for women using ride-hailing services, particularly during late-night hours. It raises questions about driver verification processes, passenger protection mechanisms, and emergency response protocols within the rapidly growing gig economy transportation sector.
