Police in Rajasthan's Udaipur have made a significant breakthrough in a disturbing case, arresting three individuals, including the CEO of a private IT company, for the alleged gangrape of a female manager from the same firm. The arrests followed a birthday party that took a horrific turn last Saturday.
Dashcam Footage Provides Crucial Evidence
According to officials, a critical piece of evidence that propelled the investigation forward was video and audio footage captured by a car's dashcam. This recording allegedly documented the incident, providing investigators with substantial leads. Acting swiftly on the manager's complaint, the Sukher police station registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The three accused were identified as Jitesh Sisodia, the CEO of the company, executive head Shilpa Sirohi, and her husband, Gaurav Sirohi. All three were detained for questioning and subsequently placed under arrest on Thursday. They were produced before a local court, which remanded them to four days of police custody for further interrogation.
Sequence of Events: From Party to Assault
The chain of events began when CEO Jitesh Sisodia organized a birthday party for himself last Saturday. The complainant, a manager at the firm, was among the guests invited. As the party wound down and other guests departed, the woman was left alone. At this point, Shilpa Sirohi, the company's executive head, offered to drop her home.
The woman accepted the offer and got into a car where Sisodia and Gaurav Sirohi were already present. During the journey, the trio made a stop at a shop, purchased an item reported to resemble cigarettes, and offered it to her. In her police complaint, the woman stated that she lost consciousness soon after consuming the substance.
She regained consciousness the next morning, only to make a horrifying discovery. The woman reported that she had been sexually assaulted. She further detailed that her earrings, socks, and undergarments were missing, and she had sustained injuries to her private parts.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
Udaipur Superintendent of Police, Yogesh Goyal, confirmed the arrests and the registration of the case. The police acted promptly on the formal complaint filed by the survivor. The investigative team relied on the technical evidence and the woman's statement to build a case against the accused.
The swift action led to the detention and subsequent arrest of all three individuals within days of the incident. The court's decision to grant a four-day police remand allows investigators to delve deeper into the circumstances, gather more evidence, and establish a clear timeline of the alleged crime.
This case has sent shockwaves through the local community and corporate circles in Udaipur, highlighting serious concerns about safety and professional ethics. The use of dashcam footage as pivotal evidence also underscores the growing role of technology in aiding criminal investigations in India.
