Father Stabs Daughter Outside Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain Over Marriage Dispute
In a disturbing incident that has shocked the community, a man allegedly stabbed his 18-year-old daughter outside the revered Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain on Friday morning. The attack stemmed from a dispute over the young woman's marriage, according to police reports.
Violent Attack in Crowded Temple Area
The victim, identified as Varsha, sells rudraksha beads and other religious items near Gate No 1 of the Mahakaleshwar temple. Her father, Varsan Pardi, launched the sudden attack in the crowded area before onlookers could fully comprehend what was happening.
Police officials confirmed that Pardi stabbed his daughter in the back and legs before fleeing the scene, leaving her severely injured. Bystanders immediately rushed Varsha to the district hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Background of Family Conflict
Station in-charge Gagan Badal provided crucial context about the family situation. "The accused had abandoned Varsha's mother, Mana Bai, approximately 16 years ago," Badal explained. "He wanted to arrange his daughter's marriage according to a practice prevalent in their community, where money is received from the groom's side."
The police officer elaborated that Pardi had been pressuring his daughter to live with him and consent to the arranged marriage. This dispute reportedly escalated tensions between the estranged couple as well.
Financial Motive Behind the Violence
Mana Bai, the victim's mother, told investigators that Pardi had fixed his daughter's marriage for Rs 5 lakh. "Driven by greed for this money, he was persistently pressuring her to stay with him and agree to the marriage arrangement," she stated to police.
The situation reached a violent climax when Varsha refused to comply with her father's demands. According to her mother's account, this refusal prompted the brutal attack with a knife outside the temple premises.
Police Response and Legal Action
Local authorities have registered a case of attempt to murder against Varsan Pardi and have launched an extensive search operation to apprehend the accused. The investigation continues as police gather additional evidence and statements from witnesses.
