Ujjain Man Shot in Leg in Late-Night Gang Attack Near Hira Mill Bridge
A 24-year-old man was shot in the leg near a bridge in the Hira Mill area of Ujjain late Monday night, in what police have described as a gang attack stemming from an old dispute. The incident occurred around 1 am, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Attack
The victim, identified as Lav from Vishnupura, had parked his motorcycle under the bridge while attending a wedding procession in Karohan with two friends. Upon returning to collect his bike in the early hours, he was confronted by two men: Anmol Gurjar and Jai, also known as Bachcha, both associated with the Gurjar gang.
Anmol reportedly pulled out a pistol and fired two shots. One bullet grazed Lav, while the other struck him in the leg. The assailants fled the scene with a third associate, leaving Lav injured. His companions quickly rushed him to Charak Hospital for medical treatment.
Police Response and Arrest
Dewas Gate Sub-Inspector Radheshyam Awalia stated that the attack was linked to a longstanding dispute between gangs. Police acted swiftly, arresting Jai alias Bachcha within hours of the incident. He was produced before a court on Tuesday, which granted two days of police remand for further investigation.
The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb gang violence in the region. Authorities are continuing their search for the other suspects involved in the shooting.
