Una Police Launch Investigation Into Woman's Suspicious Death Following Lover's Murder Allegation
Police in Una, Gujarat, have registered a First Information Report (FIR) into the highly suspicious death of a young woman in Nesda village, after her long-term partner alleged she was murdered by her own cousins over a bitter property dispute and their staunch opposition to her relationship. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising serious questions about familial conflict and land-related violence.
Lover Files FIR Alleging Premeditated Murder Over Land and Marriage
The formal complaint was filed by Satu Khasiya, 30, the woman's partner of seven years, who claims that intense family pressure concerning land ownership and disapproval of their planned marriage directly led to her killing. Khasiya, a resident of Nesda who works in Surat's diamond polishing industry, submitted the FIR at Una police station on Saturday. He alleges that Mansu Gohil was murdered by her cousins, identified as Vikram Gohil and Manu Gohil.
According to the detailed FIR, Satu and Mansu, who belong to the same caste, had intended to marry but faced strong opposition from their families. Complicating matters, Mansu owned approximately 12 bighas of agricultural land. About five months prior to the incident, she reportedly made Vikram a 50% partner in the official land records, a decision that would later become a central point of contention.
Threats, a Suspicious 'Meeting', and a Hurried Night-Time Cremation
The FIR states that Vikram and Manu subsequently pressured Mansu to terminate her relationship with Satu and transfer the entire land holding to their names, allegedly threatening to kill her if she refused to comply. The situation reached a critical point on the night of March 20.
While Satu was in Surat, he spoke to Mansu on the phone around 8:30 PM. She informed him that her cousins had summoned her to Manu's house for a purported "meeting" regarding their engagement plans. When Satu called her again around 9:00 PM, she mentioned that Vikram was coming to pick her up. Tragically, around 7:00 AM the following morning, Satu received a devastating call from a fellow villager informing him that Mansu had died.
When his family members urgently sought details, they were told she had succumbed to a sudden "heart attack." Alarmingly, her family had already cremated her body late at night, which immediately raised deep suspicions, as their community traditionally does not perform last rites during nighttime hours.
Police Investigation Uncovers Evidence of Foul Play
In his FIR, Satu expressed strong doubt over the heart attack claim, noting that Mansu had no history of serious illness, was in good health, and worked regularly in the fields. Suspecting she was murdered during the alleged meeting to seize her land, he first contacted the 112 emergency helpline on March 24. With the steadfast support of his family, he later formally lodged the complaint at Una police station.
During the preliminary investigation, police uncovered evidence suggesting the accused throttled the victim before hastily cremating her body to destroy evidence. Authorities have collected crucial forensic evidence and registered an offence under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 103(1) and 54, which pertain to murder and related criminal conspiracy. The investigation remains active as police work to uncover the full truth behind this tragic case.
