Union minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday stated that he had instructed his son, Bandi Sai Bhagirath, to present himself before the police in connection with a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case. The minister’s remarks came a day after the Telangana High Court declined to grant interim protection from arrest to Bhagirath.
Minister’s Statement
“I have asked my son to appear before the police,” Kumar was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India. The minister emphasized his commitment to the rule of law and urged his son to cooperate fully with the investigation.
Court’s Decision
On Friday, the Telangana High Court refused to provide interim protection from arrest to Bandi Sai Bhagirath, who is facing allegations under the POCSO Act. The court’s decision paved the way for law enforcement agencies to proceed with the legal process without any hindrance.
The case has garnered significant attention due to the involvement of a Union minister’s family member. Legal experts suggest that the court’s refusal indicates the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a thorough investigation.
Background
The POCSO Act is a comprehensive law designed to protect children from sexual assault, harassment, and pornography. Cases under this act are treated with utmost priority by Indian courts. The Telangana High Court’s ruling underscores the judiciary’s stance on ensuring accountability in such sensitive matters.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has been a vocal advocate for law and order. His public call for his son to surrender aligns with his stated principles of justice and transparency.
The development is still unfolding, and further details are awaited as the police investigation progresses.
