Uttar Pradesh ATS Makes Arrest in Sant Kabir Nagar Over Fake Aadhaar Card Network
The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh Police has apprehended a man in Sant Kabir Nagar district for his suspected involvement in a criminal gang that specialized in producing counterfeit Aadhaar cards. Officials confirmed the arrest on Thursday, marking a significant development in a broader crackdown on identity document fraud.
Details of the Arrest and Investigation
According to reports from news agency PTI, the accused, identified as Vinod Kumar Vishwakarma, a resident of Naurangiya village, was taken into custody late Wednesday evening. The arrest occurred at a shop located in the Sabzi Mandi area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Khalilabad Kotwali police station.
This action is part of an extensive and ongoing investigation into a sophisticated fake Aadhaar card racket that was initially uncovered by the Lucknow ATS in August 2025. During the earlier phase of this operation, several individuals were arrested across multiple districts, including Gorakhpur, as authorities worked to dismantle the network.
During the subsequent probe, Vishwakarma's name reportedly emerged as a key figure who provided crucial technical support to the illicit operation. Acting on this intelligence, an ATS team, led by Inspector Kuldeep Singh and assisted by local Kotwali police, conducted a coordinated raid on his shop. The operation resulted in his detention and the seizure of critical evidence from the premises.
Evidence Seized and Legal Proceedings
Authorities confiscated a laptop, a mobile phone, and several incriminating documents during the raid. These items are expected to provide further insights into the modus operandi of the racket and potentially reveal additional connections within the criminal network.
Station House Officer of Khalilabad police station, Jai Prakash Dubey, provided additional context, stating that the ATS team conducted a preliminary inquiry at the local police station before transporting the accused to Lucknow for more detailed interrogation. This step underscores the methodical approach being taken to ensure a thorough investigation and build a strong legal case.
The arrest highlights the persistent efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat cybercrime and document fraud, which pose serious threats to national security and individual privacy. The ATS continues to pursue all leads in this case to ensure that all individuals involved in the racket are brought to justice.
