In a shocking incident of public violence, a head constable of the Uttar Pradesh Police and a passerby were brutally stabbed by a group of motorcycle-borne assailants following a brief altercation at a bus stop on Wazirabad Road in north-east Delhi. The attack occurred on the night of January 21, sending ripples through the local community and prompting an immediate police response.
Details of the Violent Encounter
The incident was first reported to the Khajuri Khas police station by Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where the two injured individuals were admitted for urgent medical treatment. Upon investigation, police officials confirmed that both victims had sustained multiple stab wounds, highlighting the severity of the assault.
One of the injured has been identified as Kuldeep, a 31-year-old head constable currently posted at the Ankur Vihar police station in Uttar Pradesh. In his official statement to the authorities, Kuldeep recounted that he was waiting at the bus stop when three men arrived on a motorcycle, riding in a reckless and dangerous manner.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Attack
The trio allegedly initiated a quarrel with other people at the bus stop, creating a tense atmosphere. Demonstrating commendable civic duty, Kuldeep intervened in an attempt to defuse the escalating situation. Following his intervention, the three men temporarily fled the scene, providing a false sense of resolution.
However, within minutes, the accused returned to the bus stop, armed with a sharp weapon, and launched a vicious attack on Kuldeep. During this assault, a brave passerby, 32-year-old Sachin Pandey, a resident of 5th Pusta, Sonia Vihar, stepped in to rescue the police constable.
In a tragic turn, Sachin Pandey was also attacked by the assailants and suffered significant injuries during his courageous attempt to help. The attackers then fled the scene on their motorcycle, leaving both victims wounded and in need of immediate medical attention.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Both injured persons were swiftly rushed to the hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Medical authorities have reported that their condition is now stable, offering some relief amidst the distressing event.
The Khajuri Khas police have registered a formal case under Sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This legal action underscores the gravity with which the authorities are treating this violent crime.
To apprehend the perpetrators, police officers have deployed multiple specialized teams. A thorough investigation is underway, with officials scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the movements of the attackers both before and after the incident. This digital evidence is crucial for identifying the suspects and understanding the full context of the attack.
This incident raises serious concerns about public safety and law enforcement challenges in urban areas, highlighting the risks faced by both police personnel and ordinary citizens in everyday situations.
