19-Year-Old Girl Dies by Suicide After Alleged Harassment in UP's Ambedkar Nagar
A tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar Nagar district on Tuesday, where a 19-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide shortly after being subjected to harassment and threats by her 22-year-old boyfriend and his two nephews. Details of the Harassment Incident
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the girl's father, the distressing events began around 2:30 PM on Tuesday. The two nephews of the alleged boyfriend, identified as Suraj (20) and Golu (21), called the girl to their home under a false pretext. Upon her arrival, they reportedly snatched her mobile phone and began scrutinizing its contents without her consent.
When the young woman protested this invasion of her privacy, the situation escalated rapidly. Suraj and Golu are accused of misbehaving with her, hurling abusive language, and issuing direct threats to her life. The alleged boyfriend, Anuj, who works in Gujarat, was also involved in the incident, though he was not physically present at the time. Deeply humiliated and traumatized by the ordeal, the girl returned to her home and immediately contacted her brother to inform him about what had transpired.
Tragic Discovery and Immediate Aftermath
Around 3:30 PM, the girl's cousin returned from school and made a horrifying discovery: she found the 19-year-old hanging in her room. Family members and neighbors rushed her to a health facility in Tanda, but doctors were unable to revive her and declared her dead upon arrival. The local police and a forensic team swiftly arrived at the scene to collect evidence and initiate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The girl's last rites were performed on Tuesday evening following the completion of the postmortem examination. The community has been left in mourning, with many expressing outrage over the alleged harassment that preceded this tragic loss of life.
Police Response and Legal Action
On the basis of the complaint lodged by the grieving father, the police have registered a case against Anuj, Suraj, and Golu. While Anuj remains at large and is currently on the run, Suraj and Golu have been detained for questioning at the Aliganj police station.
Circle Officer Shubham Kumar provided an update on the investigation, stating, "Two accused are being interrogated. Further legal action will follow based on the evidence gathered."
