Teen Girl Confesses to Killing Younger Brother Over Lollipop Dispute in Uttar Pradesh Village
In a deeply disturbing incident from Uttar Pradesh's Basti district, a 15-year-old girl has allegedly confessed to strangling her seven-year-old brother following a heated quarrel over a lollipop. The tragic event, which occurred on April 11 in Thalhapaar village, took a dramatic turn when the teenage suspect broke down and revealed the truth six days later, completely altering the initial perception of the case.
Initial Scene Staged as Suicide Misleads Family
According to detailed police reports, the incident unfolded when the girl raised an alarm claiming her younger brother had committed suicide. Family members discovered the boy hanging from a ceiling hook and immediately rushed him to the primary health centre in Bankati. From there, he was urgently referred to the district hospital in Basti, but tragically succumbed to his injuries during transportation.
The family, believing this to be a clear case of suicide, performed the last rites without informing local authorities. This decision meant the case remained officially unreported until the shocking confession emerged nearly a week later, completely transforming the investigation's direction and nature.
Police Investigation Reveals Chilling Details
The case took its dramatic turn on April 17 when, according to Basti Superintendent of Police Yesh Veer Singh, the girl allegedly broke down and confessed to the crime. Acting promptly on the father's formal complaint, police registered a murder case and took the minor girl into custody for further questioning and legal proceedings.
During intensive police interrogation, the teenage suspect provided chilling details about the fatal altercation. She explained that she and her younger brother were playing in a room on the terrace when a seemingly trivial dispute over a lollipop escalated dramatically. In what authorities describe as "a fit of anger," the girl strangled her brother, causing him to lose consciousness.
Staged Crime Scene and Subsequent Confession
Believing her brother to be dead, the girl then allegedly proceeded to stage the crime scene meticulously. She hung the body from a ceiling hook to simulate suicide before raising the alarm and maintaining the suicide narrative to family members and initially to investigators.
Circle Officer Kuldeep Singh Yadav confirmed that after recording her detailed statement, the minor accused has been sent to a juvenile home as per legal protocols for underage offenders. The police investigation continues to examine all aspects of the case while ensuring proper legal procedures are followed for the juvenile suspect.
Family Background and Educational Details
The victim, who was the youngest among five siblings in the family, was studying in Class II at a local school. His untimely death has left the family and community in profound shock and mourning. The accused teenager, identified as the eldest sibling in the family, is currently a Class VIII student, adding another layer of tragedy to this already heartbreaking situation.
This case highlights several critical issues including:
- Juvenile crime and psychological factors behind such extreme actions
- The importance of thorough police investigation even in apparent suicide cases
- Family dynamics and conflict resolution among siblings
- Legal procedures for minor offenders in serious crime cases
The Basti police continue their investigation while mental health professionals may be involved to understand the psychological state of the juvenile accused. The community remains shaken by this tragic incident that began with something as simple as a lollipop dispute but ended with irreversible consequences for an entire family.
