A 25-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested in Kochi for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a 15-year-old mentally disabled girl. The incident took place on Wednesday when the victim was alone at her home in the Thrikkakara area.

The accused, identified as Ravi Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was working as a daily wage laborer in Kochi. According to the police, Kumar entered the girl's house under the pretext of asking for water. Finding her alone, he allegedly tried to assault her. The girl screamed, alerting neighbors who rushed to her aid and caught the accused. They handed him over to the police.
Police Action
The Thrikkakara police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody. Police said they are investigating whether the accused had prior criminal record.
The victim has been provided with counseling and is reported to be in stable condition. The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who have demanded stricter security measures in the area.
