Uttar Pradesh Police Arrest Man for Illegal Bull Slaughter After Gunfight in Bhadohi
In a dramatic late-night operation, Suriyawan police in Bhadohi district, Uttar Pradesh, arrested Vijay Gautam, also known as Kallu, following an exchange of gunfire in an orchard at Bairiparwa village on Sunday night. The incident unfolded after villagers reported illegal slaughter activities, leading to a confrontation where Gautam was injured and apprehended while his three accomplices managed to flee the scene.
Police Raid and Retaliatory Firing
Bhadohi Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik stated on Monday that after receiving an alert from vigilant villagers who witnessed the act, a police team swiftly raided the orchard near a garden adjacent to the primary school on Kalinjara Road. Upon the police's arrival, the accused opened fire in an attempt to escape, prompting retaliatory action from the officers.
In the ensuing gunfight, Vijay Gautam, a resident of Bairiparwa village, sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was captured. The police immediately rushed him to a hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, his three associates evaded arrest and remain at large, with authorities actively pursuing them.
Evidence Recovered from the Scene
During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered substantial evidence linking Gautam to the illegal slaughter. The seized items included beef, animal remains, a cleaver, a car, a country-made pistol, and several cartridges. Further searches of the surrounding area revealed bone fragments and other parts of the animal scattered in the fields, corroborating the villagers' claims.
Details of the Illegal Slaughter Operation
During interrogation, Gautam confessed to the illicit activities. He revealed that he and his friend, Rajkumar Saroj, had captured a stray bull grazing in a field and struck a deal with two other individuals to hand it over for slaughter. Under the cover of darkness, Rajkumar drove the bull to the orchard, tied it under a tree, and awaited the buyers.
The two buyers arrived in a car, and together, the group slaughtered the bull at night. As they began packing the animal's pieces, some alert villagers noticed the suspicious activity and raised an alarm. In a desperate bid to conceal the evidence, the perpetrators placed the bull's head in the car, but before they could make their escape, the police arrived at the location.
Ongoing Manhunt for Escaped Accomplices
Superintendent Manglik emphasized that police teams are diligently working to apprehend Rajkumar Saroj and the two other individuals who managed to escape. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities determined to bring all involved parties to justice for violating laws against illegal slaughter and endangering public safety through the use of firearms.

In a separate but related development, Maharajganj police in Azamgarh district arrested an individual named Shibbu on Monday for butchering a prohibited animal near Badhardeeh Puliya.
